Bad Episode III review

Normally.. I ignore what any movie critic says about a movie I want to see… I figure their like the weatherman..the chances of them being right, are less then the chances of them being wrong.

I was reading CNN today, and came across a link to Entertainment Weekly’s review of Star Wars Episode III… and I have to wonder if the critic actually watched the movie….

Don’t read any further if you haven’t seen the movie, and don’t want anything given away…

I’m serious… stop now!!!! Possible Spoilers ahead!!!

Whoo-Hoo!

Since the order was placed, I’ve been checking Apple’s order status page, like every 5 minutes when I’m near a computer.

The iMac has been listed as “sent to manufacturing” for what seems like forever.. and this morning when I checked after I woke up.. I see this:

Shipped

1 Shipped 05/18/2005

Whoo-Hoo!!!! it’s finally on its way… (I realize finally seems like overkill, since its been less then a week since it was ordered…but hey.. its a new computer!)

Blog Censorship

really couldn’t think of a better title… oh well…

This one falls into that political area I normally stay out of..but.. after reading this post on Judi’s site.. I had to read more.

Turns out.. Judi sums it up pretty nicely..A guy who has his blog hosted on Typepad (ran by six apart – the movable type guys). Had a post where someone left comments he didn’t like. So, instead of doing what any other MT using blogger would do, and either delete the comments, and ban the user from the blog..and leaving it at that… he decides that because he found this person’s comments offensive and hateful…that this person should be banned from posting comments on ANY blog hosted by Typepad.

So.. I go and read this post on Mr. Silverstein… in which he states his opinion that because Six-Apart won’t ban this user globally..that they are condoning what he said.

I read the original comments (which Mr. Silverstein has gone in and edited, although he does clearly mark his comments inside the comments)… and I don’t see the same thing Richard sees.. do I see stupid, insulting, pointless comments? Yup..sure do.. do I see anything other then someone expressing their opinion? Nope..

Nothing in either the quoted portion of the comments..or in the original comments themselves is threatening..(and for the record, like Mr. Silverstein, I’m Jewish..)

In the comments posted to this article, Richard keeps stating that the original comments stated that the commentor was advocating violence and genocide… maybe I missed it because its 1:30 in the morning..but I didn’t see a single mention of anyone threatening violence or genocide…

My take on the whole thing? Six-Apart/Typepad is correct in refusing to ban someone just because one blogger doesn’t like what he said. As I don’t use Typepad to host this blog.. I don’t know if Typepad customer’s have the same flexibility with Movable Type that you get if you run it on your own server..but I’d have to assume they do.. so Mr. Silverstein… If you don’t want people to post things you disagree with in your comments.. turn on the Comment moderation feature in MT and then you can choose to censor anyone who you want to.

Me? I’ll continue to support free speech.. even for the stupid people who shouldn’t talk, let alone breed. I’ve said it before (not here though..I don’t think) I might not agree with, or even like what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

I always miss the good stuff

I haven’t even been back from Vegas for a month yet.. and then I see this. I mean.. how fair is that? They couldn’t have put those out a month ago when I was in Vegas? Now I have to plan another vacation just so I can go play the Star Wars slots……

How come I don’t have problems like this?

Shane Nickerson (hollywood guy..currently working with Cameron Diaz on her new show Trippin’) had a recent entry in his Blog, about the National Enquirer showing up on his doorstep with ‘photographic’ proof he was having an affair with Cameron. Go read the entry…its actually a fun, entertaining read (I particularly enjoyed Wil Wheaton’s response)

Based on what’s in the entry, and knowing how tabloids are..I’m inclined to agree that the affair is just bullshit… I just want to know why I never get accused of sleeping with someone famous?

Hey.. Enquirer, Star.. and whatever other tabloids are out there.. I’m sleeping with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Keira Knightly, Natalie Portman, ummmm…. Julia Roberts… ummm… the chick that plays T’Pol on Star Trek: Enterprise.. Jorja Fox, Angelina Jolie, Amanda Tapping, Amy Allen, and I think thats it.. really.. I am.. we have giant slumber parties every weekend..

But do me a favor.. confront me at work… Janice doesn’t know about the affairs =)

(you think they’ll believe me and come confront me with photographic evidence now?)

Its Over

This past Friday (the 13th) UPN aired the Series Finale of Star Trek: Enterprise.. I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet..its on the TiVo though..so I hope to be able to see it this weekend… It sucks that Paramount has killed off the Trek franchise due to bad scheduling…

This is the first time in ages that there hasn’t been a first-run Trek series being aired.. so if you like Trek.. you’re stuck with repeats and buying the show/seasons you like on DVD…

Its Coming!

It happened… I broke down and ordered a new iMac. It’s coming…

Here’s what I’m getting:

Part Number: Z0BZ

Product Name: iMac G5 17″ 2.0GHz SuperDrive

Safari Tip

Ok..there’s a lot of talk floating around the Mac news sites, about a ‘flaw’ in Safari and how OSX deals with widgets…

first off… the sample ‘flaw’ is not 100% accurate in what it describes on the page… even if you allow the widget to be installed automatically… you still need to choose to run the widget the first time, and you will get prompted by the OS to ask if you really want to run it..

but.. save yourself the headache (and avoid any possible future exploits like this) go into Safari’s preferences, and uncheck the “open SAFE downloads automatically” option..
