OK..just when you thought you’d seen a news report on every dumb thing a parent could say or do…
I get sent this link by my brother. Go ahead… read it…
Read it?
Did it sink in?
That’s right… this lady is demanding that her teenage daughter be allowed to be in the boys’ locker room, while they (and her) are changing clothes.
Now… I’m going to make fun of some of the quotes in the article…
“It’s their right to be in the change room. It’s not a privilege, And I feel that if they can play hockey then they should be exposed to all the opportunities that minor hockey players have,” says Jane Emlyn
Uhhh… newsflash lady… if you put your daughter in the locker room with a bunch of teenage boys… opportunities are not the only thing she is going to be exposed to…I’d be willing to bet that after one or two games…she’d be very familiar with what a penis looks like.
The Emlyns say the solution is shared change rooms with a dress code. And that when it comes time to shower, they say the minority gender would have to leave the room
There is a dress code already in all locker rooms.. either you’re dressed or you’re not. In fact..a little bit earlier in the article, it states that she’s already allowed in the dressing room AFTER the guys get dressed:
She is only allowed in the male change room 15 minutes before game time
So..she’s already getting what she wants..she just doesn’t get to see the guys undress/dress.
Now, I know my views of what is and isn’t acceptable don’t normally match up with the mainstream idea of ok and not ok… but.. HELLO!!?!?! What the fuck? why on earth would you want your teenage daughter to be getting dressed/undressed in the same room as a bunch of teenage guys? I’d be willing to bet, that this same lady, would be suing the hell out of the hockey league, if her daughter did share a locker room with the guys, and something ended up happening to her daughter (harrassed, raped, hazed, teased, flashed, groped, fondled, whatever). I mean.. I was a teenager once… and I know for a fact that if we had had co-ed locker rooms…there would have been lots of… let’s say.. inappropriate.. conduct going on…
Besides..if I had a daughter.. she wouldn’t even be allowed to date until she was 30…let alone be in a locker room full of horny teenage boys watching her undress….
Total insanity. You’d think a Human Rights tribunal would have better things to deal with . . . you know, the sex trade or something like that. Nope, apparently the feelings of a 14-year-old girl (who is ON THE TEAM ALREADY) and her mother who for some odd reason wants her in a room where boys are Taking Their Clothes Off doesn’t immediately get swatted away as irrelevant.
