The other day, some people at work were talking about Firefly. I mentioned that I hadn’t seen it yet, and was immediately shunned… well. .ok.. maybe not. But I was told to watch it. and since I have Netflix, I went home, and added the complete series to my rental queue (this is not like adding in M*A*S*H, or Stargate, or NYPD Blue) there are only 14 episodes in the whole series, which is 4 DVDs.. I just finished the first disc.. which had the first 3 episodes on it.
Overall.. its an interesting series.. I see why its following is as strong as it is. My first impressions are that its a civil-war cowboy series with spaceships.
Not that thats a bad thing.. because its not. At least, I don’t think its not..because its done well.. yes it does have a ‘western’ feel to it.. but, you get used to it, and I think its an interesting way to present the story. The series is funny, seems to be well written, and its entertaining. Or, at least.. the first 3 episodes are. It will be interesting to see how the remainder of the series plays out.
I know that when it was originally airing on FOX, it was moved around alot, which is never a good thing for a new show. I think, had it been more consistently scheduled, it might have had better ratings and wouldn’t have ended after one season. There is a movie coming out at the end of September, that is supposed to tie up some of the loose ends left by the premature end of the series.. (I have no idea what loose ends those are.. I haven’t got to the end of the series yet!)
love love love Firefly. I cannot wait for the movie to come out. Only a few more weeks!
I haven’t fallen into the Firefly cult yet.. who knows.. maybe after the next DVD arrives ;> It is entertaining, and if the movie is anything like the parts of the show I’ve seen so far, it’ll be good
