Interesting Headlines

So, awhile ago, I was complaining about how protesters who were protesting something so pathetic, that the only way anyone would pay attention to them, was if they had naked people there. Today, I found an article where naked (or nearly naked people) were protesting something worth being naked for!

The reason for a sudden bout of nearly naked women in New York?

The 10 or so women gathered and showed nearly all to protest the arrest of Jill (Phoenix) Feeley, who said she was taken into custody this month after going half naked on the lower East Side.

and why is this protest worthy, and PETA isn’t? Because in New York.. its not illegal for women to go topless. (I know that at least in parts of Denver, its not illegal here either)

Uncrashing

After another relatively slow night at work.. I have yet another brilliant IM conversation to share, one of our customers had invented a new troubleshooting step… ‘uncrashing’

RP says: new term used…..”I had to uncrash it”

Dan says: what’d they do? delete windows?

RP says: no she said her son made the computer crash so she had to uncrash it

Dan says: she deleted her son?

RP says: no

Dan says: She should have..that would prevent future son crashings

RP says: lol

Dan says: this command, will uncrash any windows based system you run it on:

Dan says: Format C: /U /Y

Dan says: 100% Guarantee, no windows crashing your computer after that

RP says: lol funny

So.. while we’re still trying to figure out how this lady ‘uncrashed’ her computer.. we did have a good laugh about it..

I also got sent this link at work.. which loads up a pretty funny flash animation about SuperVillans and Linux…

Bad Night?

And you thought you occasionally had a rough night when you were out. This guy managed to go out and get shot by police.. not just once…but twice during the same night! My favorite quote from the article:

“He refused to show his hands. Then he turned abruptly at the officer and the officer struck him in the same bad shoulder,” Turner said.

So..apparently the first time they shot him, he didn’t learn his lesson and surrender.. Now.. I may not be the world’s quickest learner.. but I’m thinking, that if a cop had just shot me, because I wasn’t listening to him.. well.. to me, that’d kinda be an attention getter..maybe make me stop what I was doing and listen to him.. but.. I suppose that could just be me…

Movable Type Beta 4

Beta 4 was released on Friday… and it looks good. There’s a big list of bugs that were squashed in this update here. I’ve upgraded my test site to it, and its seems to be going well.. no problems with the upgrade.. this release came with the updated version of SpamLookup..

From the looks of things, I’d expect to see the final release of 3.2 by midweek.

2 year Dr Appt

We took Kael to his 2 year doctor visit on Friday. Of course, Kael is in good health, he is only in like the 10th percentile for weight (which, means that 90% of 2 year olds weigh more then him)… but.. since he seems to have a really fast metabolism, I guess thats to be expected.. besides.. there’s nothing wrong with being skinny!

My favorite quote from the Doctor?

“He’s got the right amount of bruises on his legs”

Gotta be something they say, to help calm parents who think that someone will turn them in for child abuse because their toddler is a klutz

Toddler Wisdom II

“Don’t drink the pool”

And since we were swimming at our parent tot class, in the water with a bunch of other kids (who probably have no more bladder control then Kael)… Very, very good words to pay attention to.

Career Advancement

Apparently, I’ve been going about trying to get promotions at work the wrong way. I’ve been concentrating on doing my job, and being good at it…. according to this article.. I should be pretending work is a popularity contest.

Research at Columbia University shows that jobs, pay raises and promotions are more apt to be awarded based on a worker’s charisma than on academic background or professional qualifications.

So.. I need to be liked apparently… so, I’m screwed.. Since I’ve been told I’m kinda an Asshole at work…

Oh Well… Guess I’ll have to be a ‘nice’ asshole so I can get promoted

New Best Friend

I’ve been using Dreamweaver when I’m working on the templates and site design stuff.. and then I saw this over at SixApart. I’ll quote the exciting part:

You can make use of the support for Movable Type template tags in Adobe GoLive CS2,

So, I have a new best friend now.. everyone, please meet Adobe GoLive CS2, GoLive, this is everyone..

I have a feeling, GoLive and I will be spending lots of hours together in the future..

I think I love Adobe….

Movable Type 3.2 Beta

Looks like I could have taken a little bit longer with finishing up my MT 3.2 templates, according to this post, Six apart has decided to release a 4th beta, instead of going final candidate. The list of remaining bugs is much smaller.. and I think it will be a very stable release… also of note, Jay Allen revealed why the new default templates have so much HTML/CSS code in them, even though the actual MT tags have been simplified.:

But now, we’d like to let you in on the “secret”: We’ve unified the HTML structure used across all Six Apart products (Movable Type, TypePad and LiveJournal) to allow styles and designs to flow back and forth between our millions of customers.

This should make it easier for people to design new “themes” for MT, since so much information is now standard across the services. I’ll probably switch Janice’s Blog over to the new default template “Vicksburg” when I upgrade the site.. she’ll probably want the color scheme changed..but that’s easy..
