Mighty Mouse

I went to the Apple store the other day, and picked up a Mighty Mouse. I was a bit concerned, because I’d seen a lot of ‘I can’t right click’ and ‘I can’t get the scroll button to work’ complaints online.

Apparently, these people have some issues… because for me.. it works pretty good. And my mousing habits are..a bit different.. then most.. I’m left handed, but, because I spent so much time working on ‘shared’ computers with windoze users at various jobs… I mouse with the left hand, but don’t flip the buttons like most left handed mousers do.

So far (and its only been about 2 days) I’ve got no complaints.. I haven’t installed the software that lets me program the two side buttons.. but I can reliably right click, left click, and scroll left/right and up/down. My only issue? the default sensitivity for the scrolling wasn’t working for me,so I’d end up ‘clicking’ the third button.. a quick trip to the system preference pane cleared that right up though..

Overall.. a good mouse.. you do need to learn not to leave your fingers resting on the buttons, otherwise you will have problems right clicking (this is not a problem for me.. apparently, I don’t leave my fingers resting on the mouse.. since I didn’t have to change how I do anything).

I think everyone should go out and buy one or two.

Busy Morning

So far today, Apple has introduced:

iTunes 5.0 – looks like the difference there is you can now change the “randomness” of shuffled songs..

iPhone – Ok.. technically, its called the ROKR.. its made by Motorola… Cingular is the first provider to offer it (Tomorrow..$249.99 with a 2 year contract)… 100 song capacity..built in iTunes software.

Exclusive iTunes Music Store content – in this case, its the entire Harry Potter audio book collection… and a box set, which includes a 20GB iPod, engraved with the Hogwart’s crest

and… the iPod Nano..2GB or 4GB black or white (color of iPod..both come with color screens).. thinner then a #2 pencil.. $199 or $249.. available immediately from the Apple Store..

Safari Update

Available now via Software update.. an updated version of Safari for both 10.4.x and 10.3.X

Here’s the description of the update:

Safari version 2.0.1 for Mac OS X Tiger improves website compatibility, application stability and support for 3rd party web applications.

Not very descriptive.. and what’s up with needing a restart just for a browser update Apple? you taking lessons from Microsoft?

Sims 2 Expansion

Because all you Simmers (is that even a real word?) don’t spend enough time playing with your Sims:
Aspyr Media today announced they will publish The Sims 2 University, the first expansion to The Sims 2, with an anticipated release in November 2005.

Now you know what to add to ask Santa for

It’s Coming

Time to make a run to the Apple Store…

August 23rd The Lego Star Wars video game will hit the shelves! Between this and still needing to get a Mighty Mouse… Apple should end up with a bit of my money in the near future..

For the first time ever, one of the world’s most successful film series meets one of the world’s favorite toys in an epic new video game. Play the whole story of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith – three movies in one game!

How can you not want to play that? huh? huh? Unlike Star Wars Battlefront, who’s single player game is … weak (and its not like I really have time for online gaming at the moment).. Star Wars Lego is designed for single player fun and lightsabery goodness! It should provide hours of entertainment for me..

Mighty Mouse

Today Apple introduced the first multi-button mouse that I actually WANT to buy and use (yes.. I’m perfectly satisfied with my single button mouse that comes with all the Macs…and I am somewhat of a ‘poweruser’ as far as the OS is concerned) But Damn… this looks cool!

iBook and Mini Updates

Earlier this morning, Apple revised the iBook and Mac Mini product lines.

iBooks are faster, more memory, and include Airport Extreme and Bluetooth 2.0 on all models. iBook prices start at $999.00

Mini’s also got more memory, and a new configuration with a Superdrive. All but the entry level mini now come with Airport Extreme and Bluetooth as well… prices for the mini start at $499.00

If you’ve been waiting to get an entry level Mac.. now would be a good time to go get one..

.Mac Renewal

So.. my .Mac account just got renewed. And now that I’ve got another full year to decide what to do… I’m trying to justify renewing next year.

The only things I haven’t found non-.Mac replacements for yet, are the photo album templates (I like the 1 click integration with iPhoto…but that’s not necessary). And the iSync features…

I’m not sure if $99.00 a year is the deal it once was.. the amount of free software that gets thrown into the .Mac subscription has dropped to…nothing…

Anyone have alternatives for .Mac Photo Albums and iSync?

Dell Copies Apple (again)

incase you missed it, Michael Dell has a…let’s call it a thing.. for imitating everything that Steve Jobs and Apple do.. and the latest Dell ‘Hey, Let’s do what Steve did’ move?

Dell has hired Sheryl Crow to appear in commercials for Dell product (In case you live in a box, Sheryl appeared in lots of the iPod/iTMS promo stuff.. her and Steve Jobs even appeared together on a magazine cover)

What’s next? Dell releasing ads with silhouette dancers, against bright colored backgrounds carrying white dell products?

Updates!

Apple released 10.4.2 today (Tuesday)…so go click away in software update. Also there you will find an iSync update…unless you downloaded that when Apple made it available on like Friday..or maybe Monday…
