Apple Giveaway

As Apple counts down towards 500 million songs being downloaded from the iTunes Music Store, they have launched another contest!

If you are the lucky person who actually downloads song number 500 million.. you’re going to receive

500 million songs on the iTunes Music Store marks a dramatic acceleration of the purchase of legally downloadable music on the Internet. And the music fan who purchases that song will receive a prize that’s just as dramatic — 10 iPods for yourself and family or friends (choose from any model iPod, iPod mini, iPod U2, or iPod shuffle); a gold 10,000-song gift card for the music store; 10 additional 50-song gift cards to go with those iPods; and a trip for you and three guests to see Coldplay on its current tour, with front-row seats (subject to availability), and “back-stage” passes for a meet n’ greet with the band (guaranteed availability).

And in case you’re not lucky 500 million person…

One (1) iPod mini/50-song card Prize will be awarded for each 100,000th song downloaded beginning with the 480,100,000th download until iTunes reaches its 500 millionth download. For the 500 millionth download, one lucky winner will win the Grand Prize

So..everyone start downloading! (And make sure you click on the little iTMS link on the left over there first!)

Free Music!

Well…technically, almost free…Apple is at the free song thing again..this time, partnered with 7-11. For a limited time, (until 7/31/05, or while supplies last) buy a Slurpee..get a song free. It appears that everyone who buys a Slurpee, gets a song, so its not even a 1-3 chance..its a 1 in 1 chance, Everyone wins!

And remember…when buying iTunes, click on that lovely little iTunes icon on the left there, and let me earn a little commission…

Macintel?

Apart from the fact that everyone on the web still seems to be trying to decide what to call x86 based Macs…

The overall reaction seems to be that for users this transition should be relatively painless, for Developers..it could be a whole different story.

I was doing some more thinking on how Apple could ‘do the right thing’ (#4 on my list from the other day) with regards to Mac users who recently purchased PPC based Macs, and are now having second thoughts about the purchase.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!

Unfucking believable! Apple did it… they really and truly did it… the PPC is dead.. Apple will be on x86 by 2007..with the first machines available next year…

I don’t believe it… still….

I wonder why they didn’t switch to x86, instead of going the G5 route..that would have been a better time to switch IMO.

And as much as I love the new iMac, I’m in the process of trying to get an RMA for it… I bought the machine looking for something that would be useable for 3-5 years at least… and when developers stop supporting PPC at the end of the year (at least, as far as new product goes)… the machine’s lifespan becomes less then a year from purchase date!

Apple and Intel

The web has been on fire this weekend, since Cnet stated as fact that Apple will be switching to Intel chips next year, which they state will be announced Monday at WWDC.

My thoughts – which I figured I should get posted before the keynote..so we can see if I’m right..

Cnet is restating the rumors that the Wall Street Journal originally reported as rumors a couple weeks ago… this can be backed up by WSJ confirming the CNet story…

Apple won’t switch to x86… they are a hardware company..and they would lose anywhere from 1 to 2 years of hardware sales for this switch… what’s really going to happen is one of these:

1-Intel will begin pressing out the PPC chip for Apple

2-This has nothing to do with CPUs – Apple is going to license WiMax to include in the next generation of Airport equipment

3-Some other non-cpu chip made by Intel will be used by Apple (memory controller maybe?)

Guess we’ll see in a few hours….

Pepsi-iTunes

Just a quick reminder… you’ve only got 2 days left to redeem any bottlecaps with song codes on them you may have gotten from the Pepsi/iTunes promotion..

Or, if anyone near you is still selling the promo bottles, you’ve got two days to buy them, open them all, and redeem any winners that may be left (hey..it could happen.. I won a free song at Sesame Street yesterday)

Whoo-Hoo!

Since the order was placed, I’ve been checking Apple’s order status page, like every 5 minutes when I’m near a computer.

The iMac has been listed as “sent to manufacturing” for what seems like forever.. and this morning when I checked after I woke up.. I see this:

Shipped

1 Shipped 05/18/2005

Whoo-Hoo!!!! it’s finally on its way… (I realize finally seems like overkill, since its been less then a week since it was ordered…but hey.. its a new computer!)

Its Coming!

It happened… I broke down and ordered a new iMac. It’s coming…

Here’s what I’m getting:

Part Number: Z0BZ

Product Name: iMac G5 17″ 2.0GHz SuperDrive

Options:

065-5576 512MB DDR400 SDRAM – 1 DIMM

065-5602 250GB Serial ATA drive

065-5567 SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)

The only thing I changed off the stock configuration is the bigger hard drive.. I figure I can order more memory after I get it and see how it feels..
