Movable Type Templates

Over on her Beta Blog, Judi has brought up something I’ve always wondered about…. How come you can’t get a version of the MT Templates, that are just the required MT Tags (in the appropriate position), instead of the one formatted with all the HTML and stuff?

On the plus side, according to the comments, Jay is going to be providing the requested HTML free templates…but, he also says that Sixapart has something up their sleeve regarding the HTML stuff included in the templates… it’ll be interesting to see what they’ve got planned

MT Update part 2

As I mentioned earlier, Sixapart has released the beta version of Movable Type. While I haven’t had the time to play with it, Judi has, and she’s listed some of her thoughts on it here.

I think she’s got the right idea… separate install of the beta, so I don’t have to worry about the ‘real’ entries disappearing because of me clicking the wrong button. From reading her entries on it, install and config is a breeze..

So…once we’re moved in and setup at the new place… I’ll be following her lead and setting up a install of the beta to play with… It’ll give me a chance to use the stuff out of Jay Allen’s book (If Amazon ever ships my copy), and play with my templates and switch to dynamic publishing

Movable Type Update

It looks like the beta version of Movable Type 3.2 has been released. Jay Allen has a short entry about it here. I’d consider upgrading to the beta (which can be found here), but…since my computer and my internet connection are going to be in two different locations for a little while, I think it’ll be better to wait and maybe do the upgrade after we get moved..

Windows true value

I missed this the other day, in the depths of my Mac86 depression…

But, it turns out.. Microsoft has admitted how much Windows is actually worth. Turns out, its worth $1.00. A quick check on Amazon, shows that XP Pro, with Service Pack 2, goes for $189.00. Which means M$ makes $188.00 profit (probably $180, after Amazon takes their share, the wholesaler gets theirs..) on each copy of XP Home SP 2 sold..

While I don’t care about the markup… I am glad to see M$ finally admit how much their software is actually worth…

Apple and Intel

The web has been on fire this weekend, since Cnet stated as fact that Apple will be switching to Intel chips next year, which they state will be announced Monday at WWDC.

My thoughts – which I figured I should get posted before the keynote..so we can see if I’m right..

Cnet is restating the rumors that the Wall Street Journal originally reported as rumors a couple weeks ago… this can be backed up by WSJ confirming the CNet story…

Apple won’t switch to x86… they are a hardware company..and they would lose anywhere from 1 to 2 years of hardware sales for this switch… what’s really going to happen is one of these:

1-Intel will begin pressing out the PPC chip for Apple

2-This has nothing to do with CPUs – Apple is going to license WiMax to include in the next generation of Airport equipment

3-Some other non-cpu chip made by Intel will be used by Apple (memory controller maybe?)

Guess we’ll see in a few hours….

Airport Porn

This falls under one of those ‘bad idea’ categories…

The department of raping and pillaging your rights…err…I mean homeland security. has decided that it didn’t go far enough into humiliating the public when it allowed TSA screeners to fondle and grope any woman they wanted to. Now.. they’ve decided to give TSA screeners the ability to see what they were fondling before.

According to this article, Homeland Insecurity is getting ready to begin trials of a xray machine that only xrays through clothes.. not all the way down to your bones like a normal xray.

From the article:

“Well, you’ll see basically everything,” said Bill Scannell, a privacy advocate and technology consultant. “It shows nipples. It shows the clear outline of genitals.”

Great…so now the TSA screeners get to stare at your genitals.. I’m sure the parents of teenage (or younger) girls are really going to be happy with that. I wonder if whatever whackjob at homeland thought this would be a good idea, would still feel that way if he knew that the machines that are scanned, allow the scanner to save the picture to disc, and can then be viewed on any computer? If so, is he really comfortable with the TSA guys seeing his wife/daughter/mother/girlfriend naked? and then saving that picture…for use later..and maybe uploading it to the internet?

Several of the comments on the Cnet article bring up good points.. why not just skip the xray machine and require everyone to be nude once they arrive at the airport? it accomplishes the exact same thing that this does.

And since looking at pictures of naked children can be considered child porn.. are there going to be police standing by, to arrest every TSA that looks at the naked children that they scan?

In short.. now would be a good time to write to your congressperson, the president, the department of homeland insecurity..and tell them that this is a very bad idea.. and that they should do everything they can to NOT allow this to happen..

As for me? as soon as these are in Airports.. I’m going to insist on hand wanding, I will not go through the naked machine, nor will I allow Janice to go through (IF the TSA wants to see us naked..they can pay us) if they won’t handwand..I won’t fly anymore..

Vibro-phone?

Ok..so it should probably be marketed as the orgasmo-phone… but here’s an article on a new phone Samsung is supposed to release soon.

And you thought it was bad when people were just talking on their phone! How do you handle complaining to a person that their orgasming too loudly with their phone???

Adware company sues

So.. apparently Adware/spyware is really big on the windoze side, lots of companies make it, lots of companies make adware/spyware detection programs.. there are whole forums dedicated to talking about adware/spyware companies and the tactics they use…

Apparently the latest tactic the adware/spyware companies are taking, is to sue anyone that calls them adware/spyware/malware/suckysoftware.. for example, a adware maker called Hotbar is suing the makers of free email stationary/smileys… you can read it here.

So..maybe one of you windoze users can explain it to me… what does suing a stationary provider for calling your software adware/spyware/malware (when it IS adware/spyware/malware) accomplish?

Comcast and Tivo

Well..all the complaints I had about the Comcast DVR? a thing of the past.. or at least, they will be…next year some time…

TiVo and Comcast Cable announced today a deal that will have TiVo providing the software for Comcast DVRs… this, is a Good Thing. The only drawback…neither company is anticipating units with TiVo software to be available until sometime next year….Oh well… maybe someone will release a dual tuner HD compatible TiVo before then…

The good news, regardless of timeframe? my TiVo stock is up 52%!

New Jacket

I think I need a new jacket… and it looks like this one would do nicely.

I saw the original Burton iPod jacket…and didn’t think it was really worth the money..this one looks like it might actually be worth the asking price..since it does include the bluetooth stuff for your phone, making it work with 2 things that I always have with me…dunno if I’d pay the full $500.00 for it…but.. maybe when it goes on clearance sale…
