Memorial Day

I would like to take a minute, to say thank you, to all the Brave men and women, who are currently serving in our armed forces. I would also like to thank the men and women of the armed forces who have given their lives in service of our country.

Thank You!

Airport Porn

This falls under one of those ‘bad idea’ categories…

The department of raping and pillaging your rights…err…I mean homeland security. has decided that it didn’t go far enough into humiliating the public when it allowed TSA screeners to fondle and grope any woman they wanted to. Now.. they’ve decided to give TSA screeners the ability to see what they were fondling before.

According to this article, Homeland Insecurity is getting ready to begin trials of a xray machine that only xrays through clothes.. not all the way down to your bones like a normal xray.

From the article:

“Well, you’ll see basically everything,” said Bill Scannell, a privacy advocate and technology consultant. “It shows nipples. It shows the clear outline of genitals.”

Great…so now the TSA screeners get to stare at your genitals.. I’m sure the parents of teenage (or younger) girls are really going to be happy with that. I wonder if whatever whackjob at homeland thought this would be a good idea, would still feel that way if he knew that the machines that are scanned, allow the scanner to save the picture to disc, and can then be viewed on any computer? If so, is he really comfortable with the TSA guys seeing his wife/daughter/mother/girlfriend naked? and then saving that picture…for use later..and maybe uploading it to the internet?

Several of the comments on the Cnet article bring up good points.. why not just skip the xray machine and require everyone to be nude once they arrive at the airport? it accomplishes the exact same thing that this does.

And since looking at pictures of naked children can be considered child porn.. are there going to be police standing by, to arrest every TSA that looks at the naked children that they scan?

In short.. now would be a good time to write to your congressperson, the president, the department of homeland insecurity..and tell them that this is a very bad idea.. and that they should do everything they can to NOT allow this to happen..

As for me? as soon as these are in Airports.. I’m going to insist on hand wanding, I will not go through the naked machine, nor will I allow Janice to go through (IF the TSA wants to see us naked..they can pay us) if they won’t handwand..I won’t fly anymore..

Interesting headline

So.. I was bored at work, and surfing the web… I came across this article.

The article claims that if you have a ‘manly’ job..you’re more likely to have a boy. And if you have a ‘caring’ job..you’ll have a girl.

It even goes on to quote a study that claims that for people with ‘manly’ jobs, they had 140 boy babies to 100 girl babies.

Caring Jobs? 135 girls to 100 boy babies…

My opinion? Bullshit.. its like saying that what position you have sex in has any bearing on what sex your baby is (which, if that were true, how do you explain no-one giving birth to a litter of puppies? and how about standing up?)

Really…I just find it amazing what doctors and researchers will waste time studying… what’s next? how your job affects your children’s hair color?

Toddler Vending

Apparently, those vending machines at Wal-Mart (you know, the ones with the little crane hook, and full of stuffed animals) now accept toddlers as payment to play

According to CNN, a mother turned away for 2 seconds, and her toddler crawled up into the vending machine, since she wouldn’t give him money to actually play the game.

So..like any good parent (myself included) instead of hurrying to get the kid out.. she stopped to buy a camera so she could document the fact, to use for future blackmail.

I wanna know a few things:

1-How the hell did that kid fit up there? I’ve seen those vending machines, and the ones around here..there’s no way a toddler could crawl up there..

2-How come they didn’t try to grab the kid with the claw, and drop him back down the chute?

3- how long do you think it will be before this lady files a lawsuit against WalMart for not choosing a vending machine company that uses vending machines with chutes to small for kids to climb up? (Forgeting about the fact that she stopped watching her kid, so he could even try to climb up)

Kael – here’s a warning for you..if you climb up INTO a vending machine.. plan on staying there until someone wins you as a prize =)

Blog Censorship

really couldn’t think of a better title… oh well…

This one falls into that political area I normally stay out of..but.. after reading this post on Judi’s site.. I had to read more.

Turns out.. Judi sums it up pretty nicely..A guy who has his blog hosted on Typepad (ran by six apart – the movable type guys). Had a post where someone left comments he didn’t like. So, instead of doing what any other MT using blogger would do, and either delete the comments, and ban the user from the blog..and leaving it at that… he decides that because he found this person’s comments offensive and hateful…that this person should be banned from posting comments on ANY blog hosted by Typepad.

So.. I go and read this post on Mr. Silverstein… in which he states his opinion that because Six-Apart won’t ban this user globally..that they are condoning what he said.

I read the original comments (which Mr. Silverstein has gone in and edited, although he does clearly mark his comments inside the comments)… and I don’t see the same thing Richard sees.. do I see stupid, insulting, pointless comments? Yup..sure do.. do I see anything other then someone expressing their opinion? Nope..

Nothing in either the quoted portion of the comments..or in the original comments themselves is threatening..(and for the record, like Mr. Silverstein, I’m Jewish..)

In the comments posted to this article, Richard keeps stating that the original comments stated that the commentor was advocating violence and genocide… maybe I missed it because its 1:30 in the morning..but I didn’t see a single mention of anyone threatening violence or genocide…

My take on the whole thing? Six-Apart/Typepad is correct in refusing to ban someone just because one blogger doesn’t like what he said. As I don’t use Typepad to host this blog.. I don’t know if Typepad customer’s have the same flexibility with Movable Type that you get if you run it on your own server..but I’d have to assume they do.. so Mr. Silverstein… If you don’t want people to post things you disagree with in your comments.. turn on the Comment moderation feature in MT and then you can choose to censor anyone who you want to.

Me? I’ll continue to support free speech.. even for the stupid people who shouldn’t talk, let alone breed. I’ve said it before (not here though..I don’t think) I might not agree with, or even like what you have to say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Masturbation Month

So, apparently, May is National Masturbation Month…

Which is fine..I mean..everything else gets its own month..why not Masturbation?

I just have two questions…

1 – Who decides what month is National XXXX month…

2 – What the hell were they thinking picking May? I mean.. if there are two things that DO NOT belong together…Its Masturbation and… Mom…

really..couldn’t they have picked whatever month has Secretary’s day in it? or maybe run it the same month as “Porn Actress appreciation month”? At least then it would have made sense…

Maybe Yardwork doesn’t pay

On second thought…it appears as though doing yardwork can be bad for you. The two guys I talked about yesterday, are still in the news (which is only surprising, since the general news media seems to think Americans have the attention spans of fruit flies…) Only…today…they’re probably not so happy about being in the news. Turns out… they’ve now been arrested, and the cops are saying their ‘buried treasure’ was stolen…

Oops! Note to self.. If I ever do find a buried treasure… I’m gonna sell it one piece at a time, and not tell the news about it!

Yardwork incentive

If things like this happened to me.. I’d be much more inclined to work in the yard all the time. Of course, if it happened to me.. I’d now be digging up the entire yard (front and back) to see if there was anything else buried.

And speaking of money… the Feds are making another attempt at a dollar coin.. according to CNN, it looks like this time it might work. They’re taking a page from the centennial Quarter book..and making a series of them.. hoping that even if no one spends them, at least some people will buy them and collect them. Personally? I think we should get rid of paper dollar bills (just the ones)..and switch to coins.. since very little actually costs less then a buck now anyway…

Stupid Male Politicians

Jodi is talking about a bill proposed by Wisconsin state Representative Daniel LaMahieu.. he is trying to make it illegal for any College campus health care facilities to even talk about birth control to female students…

Jodi sums it up nicely… the guy is a fucking idiot.

I’ve noticed that the most vocal opponents to birth control/abortion/letting a woman decide what is right for her… all seem to be male. Sure, there are women who are vocal about it.. but, any time you hear some big speech or protest about it, or some stupid ass proposed law… there always seems to be a male behind it.

Wonder if that would change if male rapists were the ones that had to deal with the pregnancy… or if these idiots who suggest these things, would still agree.. if they personally had to pay for the lifetime expenses of just 2 or 3 of the children born out of rape….

Google Maps

Monday, Google added the ability to look at satellite maps when using Google Maps…the ‘mainstream’ media has made a fuss about it..stating that its new technology, a first time..and their are privacy concerns..

Umm.. newsflash… Mapquest provided a similar feature years ago (and then stopped, most likely due to lack of funding)… and there maps being used by Google are not current, or very high resolution. No reason for privacy concerns… and there are services that offer higher resolution maps for people to view…
