Kael’s Party

Tonight was Kael’s birthday party.. we tried to keep it relatively small, so it was just family and a few friends.

Kael had a blast, and ended up with a huge haul. He got some trains and tracks for his train table, some clothes, some sheets, and his favorite toy of the night – a ride on ‘digger’ that we had to pry him off to get him home…

Max’s Party

Yesterday, Kael’s buddy Max had his birthday party. Since Buddy Max lives like 45 minutes or so away, we carpooled out to the party with one of Janice’s friends, and her daughter Debbie (Also Kael’s age.. Kael went to her Birthday Party last week).

The funniest thing that happened at the party, happened on the way there.. at least.. I think so…

We had put Kael and Debbie’s car seats next to each other, in the farthest back seat in the van… and when we got to the park.. Kael’s shoes were off, Debbie’s hair was all messed up, and one of the spaghetti straps on her shirt was broken.. They looked like they’d been fooling around in the back seat (obviously, they hadn’t been… but if they’d been 13 or 14 years older.. I’d have sworn they were)

Of course.. the romance was short lived.. Debbie became infatuated with Max’s older brother at the party… he’s now her “pookie”

The rest of the party was your typical toddler bash.. kids running and playing, parents (and pookie) chasing and trying to get them to sit still long enough to eat. Fun was had by all…

And it gets to be repeated today for Kael’s party

Dreamhost Hiring

Dreamhost, my web hosting provider.. is hiring for a tech support position (No.. I’m not appyling – although I do think the job would be a blast, I don’t live in Brea California, hell.. I don’t even know where Brea California IS! (I do know where California is.. its that big chunk o’ land that is soon to be an island..after the next major quake). So, you might ask why I’m mentioning this on my blog? (Go ahead.. Ask….)

Because I found this line in the job posting absolutely hilarious!

Qualified applicants please send your resumes to us at jobs@dreamhost.com.

Plaintext is preferred, .rtf will work too. If you send your resume as a .doc file we will know that you suck at following directions!

Now… if they would open that position up to “work from home”… I’d apply in a minute..

Layout part 2

Oh yeah.. the Stargate influence on the lettering in the center banner? (The letter A, done in a Stargate font)… that’s all Janice’s fault.. she’s become a Stargate geek! in fact, she even made me change the ringer on her phone to the Stargate theme music!

New Layout

As you can (hopefully) tell.. I’ve changed the site layout.

Instead of waiting for the final MT 3.2, I went ahead and upgraded to the beta 5 build. I’d been running it (the beta) for awhile with no problems, so here’s hoping it continues to be problem free. Janice’s blog, has been upgraded to 3.2b5 as well.. so if you haven’t seen a default template for 3.2 yet, head over there.

In addition to the MT upgrade, I’ve changed the style sheet.. I know its hosed on Internet Exploder..but, what do you expect? IE doesn’t support w3c standards yet (and if I remove all the ads, this page will validate against standards). I did test it in both Firefox and Safari for Mac, and it looks good there, so let me know what you think about the new look. Also, I’ve switched to dynamic publishing for all the individual entries, so let me know if anything seems sluggish..it hasn’t in any of the testing…but.. this is now the real world..so who knows what’ll break =)

Name Suggestions

So, now that we know Vegas is a she, we can really start coming up with names to argue about. Here’s a quick list of names I like, and I’m pretty sure Janice will have some up on her blog soon..

Maryn Jaina

Asajj Jade

Mara Jade

Vegas Gold (Ok.. really.. I wouldn’t do that to the kid… but… its a good stripper name)

Aeryn Jaina

And.. um.. really.. that’s about it that I can think of..

And of course, Kael’s suggestion of Yoda is still in the running… but I’m having a hard time coming up with a middle name for that one..

Playing with trains

Kael and I were playing with his trains, on his train table this afternoon. All of a sudden, he stands up, looks at me and says “I go look at one thing real quick”.

He then goes and runs over to my chair, climbs up, and starts mousing and clicking around. (I think he even managed to refresh the Six Apart webpage), He then turns and looks at me, says “I looked at one more thing” climbs down from the chair, runs back over to the table and starts playing again…

My son.. the geek

Or..Maybe not

Looks like I spoke to soon last night.. 6A is releasing beta 5 today, not the ‘final’ version of MT 3.2… so, it looks like I may get to upgrade this site to beta 5, so I can make sure I get all the templates and stuff updated while I have time… Which is ok, because as easy and smooth as these upgrades have been, going from beta 5 to the ‘final’ 3.2 should be painless

MT 3.2

Looks like Six-Apart may be releasing the non-beta version of MT 3.2 as early as tomorrow. At least, they probably will, unless someone finds a showstopping bug. According to this entry on 6A’s beta blog…this is the last chance to file a bug report for the beta..I think its ready.. I’m running 3.2b4 on a seperate install for testing…and it seems pretty solid to me, the one bug I did find during beta was promptly squashed in one of the nightlies…so I’m hoping they’ll release it tomorrow..so I can do the upgrade and new templates/css while still on vacation….

Don’t forget to backup your database before upgrading!

Water Park

Since we got rained out yesterday, we decided to head on over to the water park today. Kael was… overwhelmed by the number of people there, and all the running and screaming and stuff, initially. So he started out not enjoying himself too much..but after he relaxed he started having fun.

His favorite attraction, was the “lazy river” (incase its called something else in other places.. its the big, slow moving, sit on a inner tube and float ride).. he had a blast.. he was rocking in my lap, trying to get us to go faster, singing “row, row, row your boat” and “wheels on the bus” waving to the lifeguards, waving to Janice, and just laughing…we musta floated in circles for an hour before he decided he was ready to get out..

It was fun, and I’m sure we’ll be taking him again…
